Ditty boxes date from the 1600s and were made by whalemen to hold small personal items such as brush and comb, shaving gear, needle and thread or letters from home.

Our Ditty boxes are made just the way they were during whaling times, by carefully wrapping each piece of faux ivory around a hand finished cherry wood oval and holding it in place with brass pins around the edge. These boxes are items of museum quality that will become part of your treasures for years to come.
